Fall Migration Sweep= s the Nation

Have you seen any waves of migrating birds lately? The blazing yellow t= hat stretches through the middle section of the above map shows us that he= avy nighttime migration is expected through the central U.S. after sunset= this evening. That could make tomorrow morning a birding bonanza from Tex= as to Michigan. Check out the three-night Birdcast migration forecast=2C or use the Migra= tion Dashboard to see what happened last night in the skies above your= state or county.

Today=2C millions of eBird= observations combined with expert data analysis allow us to pinpoint where birds ar= e headed on their southbound migrations.

Where Do the Breeding Birds in YOUR State Go? Tho= se millions of eBird observations also help us understand where birds from= each U.S. state spend the nonbreeding months. Read this free New York Times article= about the surprising ways migrating birds connect locales across the= hemisphere.

Which= Species Is This?

Late summer can be full of surprises when it comes to bird ID. The youn= g male pictured here=2C for example=2C has a unique mottled look as it tra= nsitions from juvenal to adult plumage. It's a medium-sized songb= ird with a hefty bill that breeds mostly across the southeastern and south= -central U.S.=2C and spends the rest of the year in southern Mexico a= nd Central and South America. These birds are on the move between lat= e September and mid-October=2C using gardens=2C parks=2C beach ridges=2C a= nd other habitat patches as they make their way south. Do you know the name of thi= s mottled mystery species?
