124. THE BRONX, NY, USA.
The Green Guerillas translorm vacant land in urban wastelands to
productive. beautiful. and recreational usages as city farms,
126, GLIE FARM, SOUTH BRONX, NY, USA.
This urban farm provides 8% of New York's herbs. and provides
employment for many people in an area at urban decay.
128. BLACK FOREST AREA, SOUTH GERMANY.
West or sun—lacing walls in cities and towns provide radiant heat for
marginal crop here an espalliered pear grows well and “softens“ the
wall of an urban barn. We can therelore regard most urban buildings
as additional agricultural space as are trellis systems over alleys,
shopping complexes up building walls. etc.
125. WEST GERMANY.
The productive Schreuer gardens adjoin almost every settlement and
provide iood and much—needed recreation in cities. People are
permitted to spend weekends on these mini—farms. (One example at
greening the cities).
127. THE BRONX. NY, USA.
The only example of productive use of New Yorks food waste is this
small composting husrness operated by "The Bronx Frontiefl group.
Small mountains of compost are sold ott Site to create meadows over
rubble—tilled wastelands.
129, LOUISVILLE.

Project WARM volunteers
retrofit and insulate old
folks' homes by the
thousand. This sharply
reduces energy costs and
deaths from the cold. The
cost amortizes in two
winters. Only minimal
tunds are directed to such
sound expenditures in
western society. It is
always cheaper to
conserve rather than
gernerate energy. Such
projects make many
dangerous or dirty power
generating systems '
obsolete (eg. nuclear
power).
