Amr Gharbeia Biography
تحولت عطلة مدتها ستة أشهر أراد المترجم و أمين المكتبة عمرو غربية أن يأخذها في 2005 إلى ستة سنوات من العمل على ربط المحتوى العربي على وب بالحراك في الشارع، و على مساعدة المجتمع المدني و المجموعات النشطة لاستخدام التقنية من أجل تحقيق التغير المجتمعي. أصبح غربية مروجا للبرمجيات الحرة و أحد أوائل المدونين في مصر، و عمل مع منظمات حقوق إنسان عديدة منها العفو الدولية، و المبادرة المصرية للحقوق الشخصية، و الخصوصية الدولية. فكرته عن مستقبل به أمل لحياة أفضل تتضمن عددا من التقنيات الحرة، من الزراعة المستدامة إلى الطباعة الثلاثية الأبعاد و التصنيع المنزلي، إلى نظام تشغيل دبيان و بنية اتصالات لا مركزية.
Amr Gharbeia is interested in the juncture between technology, politics and the law. Since 2004, he has helped communities and civil society use ICT for social change. During his different roles in the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, he has written and advocated policies covering telecommunication regulation, freedom of information, privacy and so-called cyber crime. He is also a former staff member of Amnesty International. Gharbeia has been pursuing a degree in science and technology studies, focusing on resilience and use of appropriate technologies in autonomous housing.

He is also a former staff member of Amnesty International. Gharbeia is currently organising and making available a knowledge base of Egypt's laws since the end of the British Mandate in 1914 to use as a resource for policy reform.
