As you may be aware=2C the Hungarian government is trying to force the clo=
sure of Central European University=2C home institution of our Center for=
Media=2C Data and Society (http://ceu.us14.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=
=3Dfa374ee98ac851f96a3b53e11&id=3D23929a8a99&e=3Dcf8db26818) .
CEU is reaching out to friends and colleagues around the world for support=
to face down this threat. The University has set up a webpage=2C http://c=
eu.us14.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=3Dfa374ee98ac851f96a3b53e11&id=3Dcb=
5e38e9d6&e=3Dcf8db26818 that includes a draft letter and contact inf=
ormation for emailing letters of solidarity to the Hungarian government. P=
lease consider sending a letter of support=2C either individual or institu=
tional. We would also welcome public statements.
We have been immensely grateful for the amazing support CEU has received o=
ver the past days. As of this morning=2C close to 90=2C000 academics and=
private citizens=2C including 17 Nobel laureates (http://ceu.us14.list-ma=
nage.com/track/click?u=3Dfa374ee98ac851f96a3b53e11&id=3D984ab54fe8&e=3D=
cf8db26818) have joined in solidarity with CEU=2C and more than 1=2C000=
letters and a 33=2C000-strong petition are being delivered to government=
officials to champion academic freedom.
We need your help in promoting this issue and sharing it with your friends=
=2C colleagues and networks around the world. There can be no doubt that t=
his is a politically motivated attack on civil society=2C free expression=
=2C critical thinking=2C and academic freedom. CEU's President and Rector=
has publicly stated that the proposed legislation from the Hungarian gove=
rnment=2C which would make it impossible for us to exist=2C amounts to "po=
litical vandalism."
We have never been more proud to be a part of CEU and your expressions of=
solidarity and support would mean a lot to us.

his is a politically motivated attack on civil society=2C free expression=
=2C critical thinking=2C and academic freedom. CEU's President and Rector=
