I have some updates concerning the 3rd =93Arab world Creative Commons<br>
regional meeting=94 that, as I announced to this list on 9th March,<br>
should have been held in Erbil, Iraq. For a number of reasons, we had<br>
to cancel that meeting, and that`s why you have not been hearing from<br>
us on agenda and program. But, since lots of people from our Arab<br>
community had, at that time, submitted workshop proposals to join the<br>
meeting, I thought it would have been a pity to waste all this work.<br>
Now I can finally announce that we are re-scheduling the meeting in<br>
Tunis from 30rd of June till 2nd of July. This has been possible<br>
thanks to =A0Nawaat, who kindly agreed to take care of all the logistics<br=
>
and the organization in Tunis, and to Al Jazeera, who is sponsoring<br>
the event.<br>
The event formula is exactly the same that was discussed in the 9th<br>
March email: participation to the meeting is open, upon presentation<br>
of a workshop proposal, to all the Arab world members. The idea is to<br>
participate not in a passive way, but by giving back to the others in<br>
the community and particularly to the Tunisian community who has been<br>
less hooked up to the regional one. The only participants who wont be<br>
giving workshops are those whose countries dont have a huge CC<br>
community yet and where have been difficult to travel for visa or<br>
political issues (i.e. Palestine, Iraq) and the official affiliates<br>
who are already doing legal and outreach work. Yet, I have to say that<br>
the majority of countries where CC communities are well established<br>
have, since the very first call on 9th March, responded<br>
enthusiastically to the meeting idea and have sent really cool<br>
workshop proposals.<br>
So far, just to recap, we have workshop proposals coming from mixed<br>
teams in the following countries and disciplines:<br>
Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, UAE, Qatar<br>
open education, law, visual arts, entrepreneurship, =A0music, citizen<br>
journalism, social media.<br>
For those who are interested, I can send the agenda and also I hope we<br>
will be soon able to post on CC Arabic website (any volunteer to help<br>
with the regional site?unfortunately, due to the contingency in the<br>
Region the website is not updated but if anybody would like to help<br>
that would be great).<br>
We have budget for a total of 30 participants, and still some free<br>
places to give up since some people, who originally proposed workshops<br>
for Erbil, cant make it to Tunis.<br>
I strongly invite people who are interested to lead a workshop in an<br>
area that is not covered yet to contact me asap. Also, people coming<br>
from countries where CC communities are not rooted yet, pls do contact<br>
me if you are interested in joining. Since the meeting is very soon I<br>
invite you to express your interest immediately and to propose<br>
workshops not after next Friday 11 June (please follow the model that<br>
everybody else followed as per my email of 22nd March to this list).<br>
Also, since we are going to host a final concert the last day,<br>
inshallah, we are particularly interested in reaching out to musicians<br>
from different genres and countries who are interested =A0in open music<br>
and remixing (either that have already released their music under CC<br>
or willing to). We hope to make soon something out of this<br>
performance, inshallah<br>
Sorry for the late notice but pls note that participants who have<br>
already submitted proposals for Erbil had to be counted and confirmed<br>
before re-opening the call.<br>
