BOB KlNGWELL has devised a simple manilold to lead water in 3
directions from a head drain; pipes are plugged or opened to allow flow
in channels, using simple concrete plugs with rubber "0“ rings.

As lor Number 43, here Bob has fitted a head drain with cross—stops
to allow water to back up and flood the field to the right; again simple
pipes are used, carefully levelled.

In lieu of guinea pigs. Desmodium restrains kikuyu grass. This uses
more water than the guinea pig solution but does not need lood
pellets.

Flood irrigation oi papaya on slight ridges also waters
green mulch. Desmodium carpets the papaya
mounds. and comfrey provides a mulch interplant.
